Spring
Following the successes of the previous year, Matron Zypheny Tegredir
and her House were eager to return to the surface, in greater numbers.
As usual, Matron Zypheny sent Canaris to the surface first, where
the weaponsmaster continued with his role as chief bodyguard to
StickssS. Canaris took part in the significant skirmish that arose
from the Fir Cruthen Celts singing a derogatory song about Matron
Mothers, which led to an all out assault by the Jhereg Faction on
the Fir Cruthen Camp. The battle was brief, approximately 8 minutes,
with the Jhereg predictably victorious. However, some of the shine
of that assault was taken off when StickssS was kidnapped shortly
thereafter, Canaris unable to stop the kidnappers from Teleporting
Sticksss out from underneath him having dived onto the Lord General
to shield him from further damage. Having offered his position,
and his head for having failed, both of which were refused, Canaris
took the responsibility for tracking down Sticksss, whilst Yathtallar
Sirantae took the unprecedented risk of undertaking a divination
ritual to Llolth whilst not being a ritualist, although she received
help from Zommorod A'Tesh in considerable numbers, as well as Canaris
and Chazmyr. The ritual was successful, and set them on the path
to Lyonesse, to the estates of The Holborns, former leaders of The
Gryphons.
Late
Spring
Canaris had already sent word to the House, so that a number of
surface trained individuals met him when he reached mystical Lyonesse.
Matron Zypheny herself led a number of troops and several wizards.
Once the formalities of being greeted by the Gryphons had been completed,
the Jhereg went to work on tracking down their missing faction leader.
It came as little surprise when Fate herself turned up to tell the
faction that only 13 may make the journey, and Canaris had to put
up with the bickering and snide comments of many who felt themselves
more qualified than those chosen. Eventually, the 13 were assembled,
and with Fate in tow journeyed into the wilds. A number of 'things'
attacked at various points, and the party were split over a particular
course of action where it became clear that the two representatives
from Zommorod A'Tesh were not there to rescue Sticksss at all, but
to retrieve the shield of Llolth he had carried. However, in the
end the would be rescuers were led to a force wall beyond which
a large number of enemy waited, and behind them could be seen the
comatose Faction Leader. Fate dropped unsubtle hints, and both Canaris
and Tarl (see LVZ) did grevious damage to themselves in order to
complete the rite to open the force wall, until it disappeared and
the enraged Faction members charged the enemy force, destroying
them in moments in some truly vicious fighting where no quarter
was asked or given. Sticksss was taken back to camp, where it emerged
he was now possessed by another Beastman's spirit, that of a general
named Ehran. Frankly, House Tegredir did not really care; in fact,
Ehran seemed to be calmer and a better General than Sticksss. Tegredir
ended the event having lost a mage to the usual causes (assassination)
and helped the faction to destroy the large group of undead that
sought to stop the factions from leaving Lyonesse, under the command
of the Lich Mallagant. We would have more involvement with him later.
Summer
The
House returned to the surface in considerable force, with quite
a number of troops under the Guards Commander, and Veldri, daughter
of Canaris, as well as wizards and 'specialists'. The faction was
camped in a more open location, but thanks to the ingenious work
of Quellar Zommorod A'Tesh, all avenues of attack were cut off by
a web-fence that held fast anything that touched it, until released
by a High Priestess of Llolth. They also provided a magnificent
gate, with a walkway over the top upon which four or five warriors
could rain death upon any foolish enough to attack, or even displease
the faction.
House
Tegredir spent a great deal of time providing guards for the faction
gate, and the postern gate. Whilst returning from a visit to the
Lions camp, Ilharess Tegredir and her retinue were verbally assaulted
by a larger force of humans. The Matron, rightly furious, ordered
her retinue to kill the offending individuals, and then left rapidly
with a guard in order to raise reinforcements, leaving her House
Patron in charge. Upon her return, and expecting to find a number
of her own troops dead or injured, Ilharess Tegredir was pleasantly
surprised to find her Patron despatching the last of the miscreants,
and no losses to her House at all.
In
the meantime, Yathtallar Sirantae was perfecting her new found mystical
arts of ritual magic, and indeed seemed to be the foremost practitioner
of such arts in the faction. The memory of the House becomes hazy
on the details, and the Yathtallar has made it clear that Llolth
has decreed she should remain close-lipped on the subject.
