demon. Whatever the case it has become apparently that this cult has an undeniable presence in this area. However despite their activity only a small amount is known about the cult and their organisation.
What is know is that the entity they worship is a depraved creature that craves carnage, thought to be some kind of infernal lord.
Confrontations with its followers are often bloody events as they seem to worship violence and bloodshed to fanatic extremes. Cultists often chant for blood as they psyche themselves up for combat and cut themselves to incite frenzy.
Further clues to their philosophy are their priest's usage of fire-like entities and elemental magic. It has been loosely suggested that insanity is also a trait they hold in particular esteem although one would think an obsession with blood and killing is a mental condition on its own.

The Cult of Cyric

While certainly less visibly active than other cults it appears that this group is extensive and widely spread. Old experiences with the cult have been little more than skirmishes with poorly armed troops but recently they have been responsible for a series of attack on villages halted by a valiant group of adventurers and the summoning of some entity based in the outlands. The difficulty with this group is that they are believed to have their thumbs in many foul schemes but make it very hard to pin it on them. Often identified by a skull tattooed upon their foreheads it has been widely accepted that the Zhentrim that fought for Duke Nazgar during the civil war and then subsequently turned on him were worshippers of this deity. The church is aware that Cyric is a powerful deity of evil but the extent of his following is hard to determine. However there have been rumours that an alternative thieves guild known as the Fireblades are particular worshippers of this god. Followers of this dark lord appear to use a large number of undead in their operations, and Cyric is believed to be (among other things) the Lord of Death and murder. This supports rumour caused by the uprising of another cult that Cyric took this title from another entity. Chance encounters by parties of the adventuring community have given evidence that the followers of Cyric are warring against the followers of Bane; a dark god of the Dead previously believed to be disbanded. In the second part of the guide we will look at some of the lesser mentioned groups such as Bane who the Adventurers Guild hold a particular grudge against and the hardly known, Cult of Winter.

A Profile On The 'Funny' Thief

The Western Realms Gazette prides itself on integrity, professionalism and most highly, casting the harsh light of truth on those that wish to lurk among the shadows of deceit and villainy. Let it be known that none one can smother the harsh light but only be blinded by its righteous glare. Since our valiant reporters headed out into the Outlands and Dellgate Underworld it has become apparent that there are vipers waiting to prey on the good hearted and trusting. Working closely with the adventuring community, the Western Realms Gazette exposes one such felon in this investigative, personal account.

I am writing this article as a warning for all the fine upstanding citizens of the Western Realms, but in particular for the adventurers whose misfortune it might be to come across this 'Jester'.
The gentleman I am referring to uses the title 'Jester' as a cover for his real occupation as a thief. He has extensive magical capabilities and frequently relies on poisons to get out of dangerous situations. This 'Jester' is also apparently a conversationalist with the much talked but little known Drow, whom the Kagonesti Elves call 'He Who Walks Alone', but is more commonly known as Holosade, Death Bringer.
I am uncertain of the exact nature of his association with this Drow but I am sure it will result in trouble in the Future.
He is also a sergeant in the Thieves Guild and by utilising dubious and devious methods, has tried to bribe members of the Adventurers Guild, into leaving the honourable establishment to join his Guild in the sewers concocting their foul and nefarious schemes. However I am glad to report that this criminals overtures have been decisively refused by the fine and honest members of the Adventurers Guild.
I have also obtained information from a reliable and independent source, pertaining to the fact, that he has knowledge of the mysterious and obscure race known as the Mind Flayers, including a degree of mastery of their equally mysterious and obscure language. The description of this fiendish, despicable rogue is as follows, he 5' 7" of small to medium build and has short dark hair. He also appears to be Half Elven, in my personal opinion he is possibly half High Elven. The weapons he generally prefers, but uses to little effect unless utilising his poisons, are knives and a spear, although that may vary, depending upon what he has stolen recently.
As a final note I urge everyone to avoid dealings with this disreputable scoundrel.

CHAPTER THREE: THE SQUAD OF '84

It was in '84, sixteen years since I had joined the Dragons, and I hadn't played professionally for 4 years. After three years in charge I had finally built a good team, with a solid defensive line, a good offence and every managers catching dream in Gabriel Destinus the leading points scorer of the '84 season.
It was the Dragon's first time in the final of the Killog's Cup, a feat we have repeated numerous times under my leadership, and riding high in the league. The owner of the team, Arlan Shilgar, in an uncharacteristic show of generosity had decided to put us up in the Holdfast Tavern the day before the cup final against the Dellgate Destroyers, which was looking set to be an intense and violent Dellgate Province derby.
If I'd known what was going to happen I would have stayed in bed. After a brief drink I threw all my players out of the bar and sent them to bed, as for me I only had to sit on the bench the next day and shout at them. So with some time on my hands to consider tactics I spent most of the night in the bar drinking telling the rather nice barmaid about my glorious playing career.
It was around three hours after midnight when the delightful young lady's husband turned up, and realising my bed would be empty I started climbing the stairs to my room. It was then noticed a light was burning in the basement and curious I descended into the dank cellar. What I found will stay with me forever! My assistant coach was tied naked to some sort of markings on the floor with three hooded figures standing above him chanting things that were definitely not Trollball songs.
