Western Realms Gazette

This twenty third day of the eleventh month 497

Prince Jarin Victorious again

Prince Jarin has once again gained a notable victory in the ongoing civil war. He led the Vacarin Chargers in a successful charge against the Carthan Regiment of Foot. As they scattered under the weight of the charge, loyal forces were able to attack and destroy another supply base for the traitor forces of the former Duke, Nazgar. It is hoped that this action in the North will be the first of a series of strikes at the traitors’ ability to carry on this civil war.

Alchemists warn of dire Winter

The Alchemists Guild have warned that due to the restriction of trade in the Western Realms at the moment and attacks by the Mercian Navy against cargo ships, there may well be a shortage of potions this winter. "Prices look likely to rise again as local supplies dry up over the winter and we are forced to rely on imported raw materials," said one alchemist we spoke to.

Logging Company Boss found Dead.

The boss of a local logging company was found dead recently at his well guarded home. People close to him have revealed that he had hired several bodyguards to protect him due to recent death threats. Our investigations have revealed that the Buildings and Furnishings Merchant Co. was behind a lot of the logging in the forests near Dellgate. The loggers had been threatened by Elven groups but it seems that more drastic action has now been taken. The local Militia have said that they will look into the matter thoroughly, but some of our sources at the WRG believe that they are unlikely to get a result.

Baneite activity on the increase?

There are rumours circulating in some of the taverns near the docks in Dellgate that there may be an increase in the activities of the worshippers of Bane. Many had thought that Cyric had taken over from Bane, but the recent activities of his followers would seem to suggest that this might not be the case.

Goblinoid raids continue.

The Outlands has always been a dangerous place, but it seems that now it definitely not a good time to have to travel through it. As well as the danger of running into units of Nazgar’s traitorous army, one now has to face the increasing number of goblinoid tribes that are attacking people passing through the Outlands. With the Rangers busy with the fight against Nazgar it seems likely that these attacks are likely to continue. The Rangers have declared that only those with urgent need should pass through the Outlands at the moment. Trade caravans are hiring extra guards.

Scouts` Guild becoming established.

It has come to our attention here at the WRG that the recently formed Scouts` Guild is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with. We have watched with interest as it was set up and now we will see what happens to this new Guild. We can only hope that it does not go the way of the Mercenary Guild. Good luck to them from the WRG. We have recently learned that the leader of the Scout’s Guild may have travelled north to spread his organisation.

Civil War turns to battle of resources

It seems that the Civil War is turning into a battle of resources as neither side seems to be making much progress at the moment. Were Nazgar relying on his own resources then he would not doubt have been defeated long ago, but it seems that he is receiving help from outside forces such as Mercia. The people of the Western Realms will not forget the actions of the Mercians in a hurry. The war is having a terrible effect on the land and displaced farmers have already said that it may take many years for crops to grow again in certain areas. The Churches are expressing their concerns that even once the war is won, the battle sites will be perfect for any Necromancers. There have already been discussions between several of the major churches as to how they can prevent the Civil War being followed by the threat of large undead armies roaming the Western Realms.

Rangers investigate rumours

The Rangers are investigating rumours that there are a group of people planning to take action against them. These people would be considered terrorists or traitors in the eyes of the law. Though there is no indication that this matter has anything to do with the traitor Nazgar and the Rangers are taking this matter very seriously.
